Officer Appointments

Appointments for available officer positions will be available to all students and current committee members early during the Spring Semester. All applications must be submitted to the Executive Council and will be reviewed by the Executive Council and chair of each respective committee. Based on availability and the discretion of the Executive Council, applicants may serve in multiple committees. All appointed positions are 1 year terms which start on March 1st, thus all students wishing to continue in their position must re-apply each Spring Semester. These positions do not guarantee travel to national meetings, however hard working committee members will be considered for meeting attendance pending funding. If you are interested in applying, complete the application form and email it to Katie Richardson (Katherine.n.richardson@uth.tmc.edu). Committee appointments are open to all classes, however officer chair appointments are limited to the classes of 2018, 2019 and 2020. The number of members on committee is dependent on applicants and the committee chair discretion.

Treasurer

The treasurer is responsible for the management, oversight, and reporting of the financial status of the UTSD ASDA chapter. As a member of the executive committee, the Treasurer oversees the actions Event Coordinator as well as the Golf Tournament Committee.

  •  Oversee present budgets, accounts and financial statements for the chapter and each individual committee
  • Prepare and present regular reports of the chapters financial position during meetings
  • Manage bank account
  • Ensure funds are available for ongoing and new events
  • Fulfill all tasks as outlined in the UTSD Houston ASDA Bylaws

 

Leadership Development Chair

Chair supervises, directs and manages all activities of the leadership development committee.  The Chair is responsible for all tasks undertaken by the committee in regard to leadership development.   

  • Coordinate annual ASDA Chapter Officer Leadership Retreat
  • Present leadership development and opportunities to chapter officers and all members
  • Identify and recruit ASDA members for future national, district or chapter leadership positions
  • Coordinate leadership speakers
  • Take roll of officer in attendance at officer meetings
  • Fulfill all tasks as outlined in the UTSD Houston ASDA Bylaws

 

Gold Crown Award Chair

The Gold Crown Award Chair creates and submits the annual ASDA Gold Crown Award Application.  This position is responsible for gathering all records and detailed information about the chapter’s leadership, membership, activities, advocacy, fundraising, media, Pre Dental involvement, and ethical awareness.  This position is responsible for using this information to create a comprehensive and creative electronic and hard copy application that positively reflects the chapter’s outstanding achievements.

  • Review the updated rules and regulation of the GCA application as outlined by National ASDA
  • Create a collaborative document where other officers can submit events and activity recaps
  • Collect all detailed information pertaining to each individual committee that is essential to the GCA application
  • To compile information from all events and noteworthy developments throughout the year
  • Enforce a deadline for officers to submit detailed information.
  • Combine all collected information and content into a comprehensive and creative document to be submitted.
  • Fulfill all tasks as outlined in the UTSD Houston ASDA Bylaws

 

Social Chair

The social chair shall be responsible the organization, marketing, and execution off campus events which embody the values of UTSD Houston ASDA. They shall work with the Executive Council, other officers, and the chapter to develop events throughout their term of office.

  • Plan and organize off campus social events for the chapter
  • Organize off-campus socials with interested vendors/sponsors
  • Ensures chapter attendance to events
  • Reports all actual budgets for social events to the chapter
  • Work closely with Events Coordinators to host events off campus and on campus if needed
  • Fulfill all tasks as outlined in the UTSD Houston ASDA Bylaws 

 

Webmaster

The Webmaster edits, updates, and manages design of the Houston ASDA website.  This position is responsible for performing all tasks pertaining to the website and its content. (Note: an intermediate to advanced level of computer literacy and website design is required for this position)

  • Create, manage, and present all digital content on the Houston ASDA website in order to maintain the chapter’s good image
  • Manage all digital transactions for donations and the sale of services or products
  • Within a year of graduation, Website Editor will be replaced by an appointment process dictated by the Executive Council.
  • Fulfill all tasks as outlined in the UTSD Houston ASDA Bylaws

 

Golf tournament Chair

Golf Tournament Chair is responsible for planning, fundraising, and running the annual ASDA Golf Tournament in the fall semester.

  • Organize committee meetings in regards to planning for golf tournament
  • Find sponsors to help fund the tournament
  • Market tournament to students, alumni, and faculty
  • Fulfill all tasks as outlined in the UTSD Houston ASDA Bylaws

 

Historian

The historian is responsible for the documentation of all UTSD ASDA events and activities throughout their term. The historian will produce media such as photography and video, as well as text summaries of events for the ultimate purpose of working with the Gold Crown Award (GCA) committee to assemble the GCA application highlighting and summarizing chapter events and achievements throughout the year.

  • Provide own equipment.
  • Attend and document as many chapter events as possible
  • Collaborate with webmaster and video production manager for content to be produced on social media and other outlets
  • Organize acquired media for GCA application
  • Fulfill all tasks as outlined in the UTSD Houston ASDA Bylaws

 

Video Production Manager

The video production manager is responsible for the documentation of UTSD ASDA events and activities throughout their term. The video production manager will produce video media and projects as summaries of events for the ultimate purpose of working with the Gold Crown Award (GCA) committee to assemble the GCA application highlighting and summarizing chapter events and achievements throughout the year. ‘

  • Produce videos throughout the semester promoting UTSD Houston ASDA
  • Collaborate with other committees for creation of video content
  • Organize video and photo footage for the purpose of producing content and assembling the GCA application
  • Fulfill all tasks listed in the Video Production Manager Description 

 

Committee Members

 The following committees have opportunities for students to join in as committee members:

  • Events Committee

The role of students within each committee is to assist the committee in all meetings and events held by the committee. Committee members are encouraged to create an event of their own that the committee can implement during their year of appointment.

All officer and committee members are to work hard and strive for the betterment of the Association and the profession of dentistry. Everyone must comply with the UT School of Dentistry Code of Conduct, Houston ASDA Bylaws, and all rules and regulations set forward. All personal and professional activity should be completed with honesty, integrity, respect, and with good intentions as to reflect our school and profession.
